Creativity from without

When Prof. Housefield told us to write about something about this title, I really get confused what is this. Then, he showed us some slides and video, which is Lisa Hock got inspired from plastic cups and Pollock got ideas from his own painting etc. I suddenly get the idea what I will write about.
The 2008 Summer Olympic Games took place in Beijing, China. It is very meaningful for all Chinese people, because this is the first time to hold the Summer Olympic Games in China. And the architects are PTW Architects from Australian, CSCEC, CCDI from China, and Arup International Group. Because this stadium is for aquatics, so that, they got the inspiration from water, H2O. Also, they want this one looks like a water cube. When the Beijing National Aquatics Center finished, it looks very simple, a cube. But it uses many people’s effort to build it. The square shape is more symbolic to Chinese culture and has relationship with the bird’s nest which is a nest shape. (The other national stadium for Olympic Games) Additional, it is also references Chinese symbolic architecture today.
The frame at outside, it is the largest ETFE clad structure in the world. That can have more light at night and save the energy from the heat penetration through daylight. During the night, the light of water cube is waving on the outer wall, and has different colors. It is based on Weaire-Phelan structure, designed from the natural formation of bubbles in soap lather.
This is a great architecture in China, maybe one day you will visit there.
